RCScrapyard ►FREE RC Classifieds: Buy and Sell Radio Control gear◄ Model Car Racing is a highly competitive sport and the need for accurate lap timing is imperative. Races and trophies have been won and lost on split seconds, which can only be accurately recorded by using AMB electronic lap counting Software and Hardware.
Staggered start races are a case in point. In this kind of race (to avoid first corner pile ups) each car individually starts its race, one second apart. The organiser will use the PA system to call out the car number to start. For the first round this will be 1 to 10, in that order, subsequent rounds will be dependant on the results of the previous rounds. For Example, if in the first round car 3 had the fastest time, and car 1 came in two seconds slower, and car 9 was 4 seconds slower than car 1 etc, the starting order for round 2 would be 3, 1, 9 etc. This kind of race is AGAINST THE CLOCK and the position of the cars on the track is not always their true position in the race. After the 3 or 4 rounds have concluded, and any disputes have been resolved (and theres always at least one) the overall times and laps of the drivers at the meeting is used to sort the final placings, and the finals are set. The slower drivers finals are run first, and the fastest last. Finals are always a Mass or Grid start. Some meetings have a Top final as the best of 3 legs, on a race finish points system, with the 3 races taking part interspersed with the lower finals.
